“UP // HOME” is a reaction to scientist Hans Clevers’ research into intestinal stem cells and organoids. I want to represent the balance between chaos and harmony in cell growth, investigating growth patterns and life cycles. It takes the form of a moving image and sound piece consisting of two poems, along with visuals of paintings and microscope imagery.
The first poem reflects on the proliferation of intestinal stem cells, construction of structures, data corruptions, and a cell becoming cancerous, while the second focusses on organoids, reflecting on disembodiment and isolation. Both pieces deal with the concept of data, and stylistically draw comparison with computer and digital systems.
